Are you passionate about working in arts education and with young people, alongside other professionals?

We are looking for three part-time art educators for Annantalo Arts Centre for Children and Young People for The Call of Art - Advancing Equity and Accessibility in Cultural Education Plans project. The position is for the period 1 January 2027-31 May 2028. The position is a 30 % working time role, with working hours totalling approximately 11.5 hours per week.

The work will mainly take place at Annantalo on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons, between approximately 12.00 and 16.00. Outside school year, the working days and working tasks will be defined according to the project’s phase and needs.

The job-specific salary for a full-time position would be EUR 2,994.14 per month. We are seeking employees on a 30 % part-time basis, meaning that the job-specific salary is reduced proportionally, amounting to EUR 898.24 per month.

As an art educator, you will primarily be working on the The Call of Art - Advancing Equity and Accessibility in Cultural Education Plans project, providing course-based arts education to groups of lower secondary school students. You will plan lessons and courses, teach classes and develop teaching practice in collaboration with other project staff. You will adapt your teaching to the needs of the participating groups. You will organise the students’ artwork exhibitions, shows or performances, for example. You will document your own work and communicate about it in line with the project’s objectives, in addition to which you will also ensure that teaching materials and facilities are fit for purpose.

You are a professional in your own form of art and an experienced art educator. Your form of art could be, for example, animation, digital art, light art, sound art, performance art, dance, theatre, music, nail art, visual arts, architecture or some art form we have not even heard of yet! You enjoy working with young people and give them the space to express their own creativity. You are familiar with working in a multilingual environment. You enjoy collaborating with other professionals in the fields of art and education, and you want to share your expertise for the benefit of others. Documenting your own work and communicating about it comes naturally to you.

The course-based art education provided at Annantalo is part of the national The Call of Art - Advancing Equity and Accessibility in Cultural Education Plans project, which will run from 2026 to 2028. The aim of the project is to strengthen children’s and young people’s cultural participation, equity and motivation at school and prevent the decline of arts education amongst young people. The project is coordinated by the Association of Children’s Culture in Finland and it is co-funded by the European Social Fund (ESF+). The project consortium comprises the cities of Helsinki, Vantaa, Joensuu and Oulu; and Culture Cooperative Uulu.

The position requires a relevant bachelor’s degree, as well as either completed pedagogical studies or pedagogical competence gained through work experience.

In addition to this, the role requires expertise in one’s own form(s) of art, as well as experience in working with children and young people. The language requirement is a good command of spoken and written Finnish or English.

Documentation and communication skills, as well as other language skills, particularly proficiency in the languages spoken by pupils at Helsinki lower secondary school, are considered an advantage for this role.

Successful candidates must, prior to commencing employment, provide the employer with a criminal record extract for inspection, in accordance with section 6, subsection 2 of the Criminal Records Act.
